Training

BUSINESS CHALLENGE

You need to establish training programs that educate your own employees and your partners about health and safety issues in the workplace.
Training can be carried out to deliver short-term requirements, such as for behavioral improvement or for re-skilling of re-deployed people. Or it can be part of long-term planned programs for induction of new employees or preparing staff for job changes. What ever the need, you want to ensure that people are properly qualified and competent to do the job.

SOLUTION

What are the training services?
Our Company offers a comprehensive portfolio of training services covering a wide range of compliance and business improvement issues:
  • health and safety management;
  • process safety;
  • occupational health and hygiene.
We provide face to face 'in-company' training courses – where our trainers will present courses at either your sites or at one of our facilities.

What are the key benefits?
Targeted training keeps your business on an even keel. You must ensure that people - employees and contractors - are capable of carrying out their functions and understand the need to comply with standards, work practices, and legislation. Our company courses ensure that the people who work for your organization have the training that enables them to do their job in a way that respects the health and safety of themselves and others.

WHY CHOOSE US?
Our company is one of the leading training organizations.
  • Our company can tailor training schemes to a client’s topic list and timescale. We also offer gap-analysis determining the expertise of people in particular work, and developing a deficiency list to cover the gaps in legislative or working practices know-how etc.
  • The delivery of training can be at client premises or at our company offices.

OUR APPROACH

Our approach is based on practical cases taken from business life and on feedback.
The ability of our trainers to react fast has allowed us to develop a "proactive" methodology, adapting course content to your needs. Our in-company training services follow a proven process:
  • analysis of needs: general goals, target population, specific issues/malfunctions,
  • educational course design: definition of courses, programs and course lengths, etc,
  • validation: approval by those in charge, field validation after test sessions, and adaptation of media used,
  • successful operational rollout.

FAQ

Do you have a training offer for ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 and similar standards?
Yes, we work with these types of standard .

Can you help in the training of operating technicians who are being re-deployed as safety inspectors?
Yes again. Operating technicians make ideal safety inspectors because they have skills and they know what can go wrong during fabrication and maintenance activities. During the training, we will highlight those individuals who have the meticulous approach required to be an inspector, and we will confirm that view by examination.

Safety services

Our company offers occupational health and safety business process consultancy and outsourcing for organisations, to reduce cost while at the same time improving their health and safety performance.

Our philosophy is to work with you in partnership to help you manage your business risks. Not to simply sell policies and procedures that are only effective as a paper exercise. We will change the way you think about business risk and help you to use safety as the route to a better and safer business.

The three main benefits and reasons for outsourcing are:

  1. The need to reduce costs
  2. The need to improve the products and services
  3. The desire to concentrate on core activities

The economic downturn, the global competition and the constant change in technology and the business environment forces companies to cut cost whilst at the same time improving their products and services. One way of achieving this is to focus on core competencies and leave the non core functions to our company.
Our specialist role in OHS will ensure a better and continuously improving OHS performance at a lower price compared to doing it in house.

Examples of cost reduction are:

  • Reduced accidents
  • Reduced days away from work
  • Reduced cost of litigation
  • Reduced fines
  • Reduced insurance cost

Examples of product and service improvements are:

  • Improved regulatory compliance
  • Improved accident rate
  • Improved service to customers
  • Improved employee satisfaction and productivity
  • Improved relationship with authorities
  • Improved risk management
  • Improved image in the marketplace

Benefits from concentrating on core activities:

  • Improved cash-flow
  • Release scarce resources for other areas of business
  • Strategic reasons – focus on what you are good at
  • Focus your resources on functions that add the most value for your customers
  • Reduce time spent on non-competitive OHS legacy systems

Benefits of outsourcing

In many years of practical experience, we have seen organizations benefit in a variety of ways from outsourcing the management of health and safety. Included amongst these are:
  • You can reduce headcount and not concern yourself with recruitment, training and absences in an area that is not your specialty.
  • Budgeting is more flexible as you transfer costs from fixed to variable. We can work with you to develop a work plan that fits within your financial constraints.
  • You can concentrate on your core business activities.
  • We work efficiently and provide the level of resource that is appropriate for all circumstances. Consequently, our outsourcing services can be a particularly cost-effective option.
  • Engaging professionally qualified consultants reduces the likelihood and impact of a possible conviction under health and safety legislation such, thereby safeguarding the reputation of your business
  • Our aim is to form strong relationships with each of our clients that are built on trust and personal commitment at every level. The result is that our clients have increasing confidence in the quality and standard of the services we provide.
Exploring options

You may be considering outsourcing health and safety work, not because you are dissatisfied with your existing arrangements, but because you need to manage costs more effectively in the current economic climate. Depending on circumstances, outsourcing health and safety activities can mean different things to different organizations. For example:
  • You may already have an established in-house facility that you wish to transfer (perhaps including existing staff) to a third party consultancy.
  • You may wish to contract out all the activities associated with health and safety, but retain your own staff for other roles within your organization.
  • You may need to set up a complete management system for health and safety from scratch using external consultants.
We are able to satisfy any of these scenarios or any combination of them.
We appreciate that you are looking for a competent, low-risk and cost-effective solution for your health and safety responsibilities. To achieve this, we typically begin with an assessment of your existing systems in order to understand your organization’s health and safety risk profile. This helps us to propose the most appropriate package of services for your organization. We appreciate that outsourcing for many clients involves a major step of faith. For this reason we emphasize the need to build confidence and relationship from the start.

Implications and challenges

Experience indicates that there are implications and potential challenges to address when considering outsourcing. Whilst you may have considered the issues in general, there are some issues that should be taken into account, for example:
  • Under health and safety legislation, the employer always has ultimate responsibility to provide competent health and safety for employees and others who may be affected by your organization’s activities. However, by delegating the management of health and safety to a competent and reputable consultancy, you have effectively discharged your duty.
  • It is vital that the contract is clearly defined for delivery of basic services that are essential for managing day-to-day health and safety activities. There should also be a facility within the contract to call in additional resources, over and above those originally envisaged, to supply for unforeseen events and circumstances.
  • Outsourcing may result in some loss of “in-house” expertise in regard to the processes and procedures associated with health and safety organization’s activities. It is all the more important, therefore, to select a supplier who is able to demonstrate values that are consistent with your own.
  • A third party provider may seek to introduce procedures or practices that are inconsistent with your own culture or preferences. It is important, therefore, that your chosen supplier should be sensitive to the particular requirements of your organization and be able to operate within any constraints that may arise.
We are in a fortunate position to discuss your requirements, to point out potential pitfalls and to help guide you around them.

Managing the transition

Regardless of who undertakes your day-to-day health and safety operations, to be truly effective, there must be commitment and leadership from the top of your organization. The commitment at senior level is never more important than when managing the transition to outsourced arrangements and then for providing ongoing strategic direction. Outsourcing arrangements for health and safety activities can involve significant changes to practices, procedures and accountability. It is highly advisable, therefore, that the whole change process should be fully discussed, negotiated and managed throughout. Good relationship management with open dialogue are needed for a smooth transition and to ensure that misunderstandings are minimized.
